4 years ago #wlf was founded – call for #catference4?

Four years ago, on 23 May 2010, the #wlf was founded as a socialist feline faction. We thank those brave few who were our founders. Respect to all #wlf comrades. It is a useful time to remind ourselves of our founding principles: the #wlf is and continues to be a an international collective of socialist cats and sympathetic members of other species (including the odd human and at least one tortoise).

Our principles are embodied in the #wlf code.

We have had occasional #catferences when we can share good #wlf practice and come together under a shared set of ideals. Perhaps it’s time for #catference4?

This year, 2014, the 23rd May falls on a Friday. Perhaps a comrade might propose a 24 hour #catference to celebrate #wlffoundersday from 6pm BST on 23 May to 6pm BST 24 May (see worldwide times here)?

Calling ALL comrades: to mark the formation of the #wlf there will be a #yowl

Comrades!

On 25th May, back in the mists of time, a small number of dedicated feline comrades* formed the Whiskas Liberation Front, commonly known on Twitter as the #wlf

These brave (mostly) British revolutionary socialist cats decided to stand up and be counted. They started a daily struggle campaigning tirelessly together for tasty treats, comfy cushions and resisting the oppression of cats.

Their simple yet powerful ideals were embodied in the WLF Manifesto. This precious document was unfortunately lost, so Comrades share information and tales of heroism each time they use the #wlf tag to attend a meeting on Twitter.

The WLF has grown into a truly international collective of socialist cats and sympathetic members of other species (including the odd human and at least one tortoise).

Remember our motto: Vidi, Edi, Minxi

And our code and anthem.

To mark this momentous occasion, there will be a celebratory #yowl at 9pm GMT (other timezones here) on 25th May.

Plus MP Chris Grayling has not endeared himself: The SWP responded to his ‘smear’ on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme (probably the most publicity the SWP has had in a very long time). The transcript is here.

NB some documents see to have been taken down from the DWP (Department for Work and Pensions) website which would suggest that Grayling and Iain Duncan Smith (IDS)  lied about workfare obligations.

Comrades of the #wlf

This week I have collected several excellent suggestions for protest targets for our weekly #widdlewednesday

1. #widdleonfredgoodwin – this UK banker has been stripped of his knighthood awarded for ‘services to banking’. You can read more here.
2. #widdleonbankersbonuses – I don’t think I need explain why in this case.
3. #widdleongarlic – however having researched the effects of garlic on anipals I can’t really recommend this as a protest target, as there seems to be conflicting evidence on how bad/good garlic is, and if it is bad, it seems it would take a very great deal to cause symptoms.
